I'lll add another +1 for the pf 500. Great amp and flexible wrt speakers. (As long as no lower than 4 ohm total.) Sounds good with the pf 115, and IMO, maybe even better with my Avatar B212 (tweeter turned off in both cases).

You can have multiple cabs, but not those two cabinets.
Yes you can have more than one cabinet as long as the amp can handle it. If an amp will take an 4 ohm load then you can run two 8 ohm cabinets or a single 4 ohm cabinet. Don't get the B2re head. From what I have heard it is rather hit and miss on quality and tone. The PF-350 or PF-500 heads are a much better bang for the buck, put out the same or more power and weigh much less!
Start with this:[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
Then add a second cabinet if needed.
). Would I be right in saying, with a 4 Ohm head, I can either run 1 4 Ohm cab through it, or (2) 8 ohm cabs, to the same effect? Also, I think that's going to be out of my price range Looks that way. The amp has only 1 Neutrik speaker out so you would have to be able to run a 2nd cab daisy-chained from the first cab. I could not tell if the cab was wired for a pass through for a 2nd speaker though they usually are.
There are 2 1/4" outs on the amp so you could do it that way. They work fine, I just prefer Neutrik myself.

Because one of those cabs is 8 ohms and the other is 4 ohms, which will give you 2.67 ohms, and that head will only go down to 4 ohms. You need to find two 8 ohm cabinets, which will give you 4 ohms. Why not?
If I was to buy This, it says it's RMS Power Output for 4 ohms is 450 Watts. I don't know what RMS meanshelp
but does that mean, if I use a cab with a 4 ohm inpedance, the maximum that cab could be is 450W (or more than one 4 ohm cab who's total (all added together) impedence is 450W maximum)?

Yes, however, the head will be running at 250 watts through a single 8 ohm cabinet.Right so, if I was to get that head, it would make sense to get an 8 ohm cab, so, if that wasn't cutting it, I could get another 8 ohm and run them both through that head?
I'm sorry, but I'm not making much sense of this question. Impedance is not measured in watts, and you can't run more than one 4 ohm cabinet with that head.If I was to buy This, it says it's RMS Power Output for 4 ohms is 450 Watts. EDIT: that should read or more than one cab who's total impedence is 4 ohm (E.G. two 8ohms) and who's total output is 450W?
Yes, however, the head will be running at 250 watts through a single 8 ohm cabinet.

What does that mean? I get what is happening technically, but is that a problem or is that fine or what?

Yes, sorry mate, I editted that one, I've not slept in 2 nights, so I'm a bit careless haha.
Ps: thanks a lot for taking the time to explain all this to me, I understand that it's probably very frustrating with me going 'huh?' at everything you say, but I am learning! Thanks!![]()
If you are asking if it will harm the head or the cabinet, no, it will not. In that respect it is no problem.Yes, however, the head will be running at 250 watts through a single 8 ohm cabinet. What does that mean? I get what is happening technically, but is that a problem or is that fine or what?
You're welcome, and don't worry about it, man. We've all been there.Yes, sorry mate, I editted that one, I've not slept in 2 nights, so I'm a bit careless haha.

If you are asking if that is loud enough, it depends on your needs. If it were me, I would go with 8 ohm cabinets.

I've got my head screwed on bass wise but with amps it seems to be either a) amps are what make the bass loud! or b) a hellova lotta technical lingo, and there seems to be little inbetween![]()
Wannaflea: If an amp is rated at 500 watts it is usually rated at the maximum load of the amp, typically 4 ohms. It will run at 8 ohms as well but it won't put out as many watts. An example is the Ampeg PF-500. It is rated at 500 watts at 4 ohms or 300 watts at 8 ohms. If you use one 8 ohm cabinet with it it will put out 300 watts. If you use two 8 ohm cabinets or one 4 ohm cabinet it will put out 500 watts.
There are a few amps such as the Carvin BX500 that will go to 2 ohms. In that case you could use two 4 ohm cabinets or one 8 ohm and one 4 ohm together.
Amen. I'm dizzy just from reading the FAQ about ohms & etc. Here I thought buying a Fender Rumble was safe and smart.
Hi all,
I'm still fairly new to the game here so please excuse my ignorance.
Amp-wise, I'm currently using a Fender Rumble 75W for my home practice. However today, I went to the local studio to do some recording with the band and I used and Ampeg combo. Wasn't very big, I could make out 'B2' (there may have been more but there was a sticker right next to the name on the front). Sweetest sound I've ever heard from my bass. I'm using a Fender Jazz, with DiMarzio DP128's (really dark, punchy pickups) and it sounded so nice! I had brand new strings (GHS Boomer Flea's) on so that will have contributed to it but the highs were glittery, had a round bottom end and it cut through without being winy.
I've done a bit of research and I've found Invalid Link RemovedI'm pretty sure this and the one I played through are one and the same. Problem is, it seems like this model has been discontinued.
Can anybody suggest a similar amp (tone-wise, not size wise) that would get me that sound which I'm now craving... Not satisfied with my Rumble when I got home![]()
Nothing wrong with Fender Rumble. Very sturdy.
