Reliable Boom Stand

It's time for a new mic stand, the clutch on the old one broke. Can anyone suggest a durable mic stand with a telescoping boom with a preferably metal clutch assembly? I looked at GC and nothing appealed to me. Thanks in advance.

K&M is good stuff (i've bought that boom part and put it on a round-base stand myself, works great).

also check out tama, who make a really nice boom tripod stand. heavy, chrome, and just solid. you can feel the quality in the way the top part drops into the main tube, it actually bounces on a nice internal rubber stop when it bottoms out.

Do you really need a boom? This is an interesting design and I find its very handy, gives me enough lean that I don't need a boom to clear .

I've been using an Atlas for 30 years. My dad used it for about 20 before I got it. Seems pretty durable...

I recommend two things.

One: Tripod stands over round based stands. They fold up compactly and won't bang into your ankles or pinch your fingers when you try to carry more than one of them. I bundle up 6 or more of them with a couple of bungee cords to go to a gig. But make sure you get the heavy duty ones; the light weight ones are crapola.

Two: ALWAYS loosen the clutch before you change the angle of a boom. Forcing a tightened clutch to a different angle is very bad for it.

Don't get one that has an oval-shaped tightening lever. My K&Ms were like that, and it was hard as hell to get them tight. Get one that has a rod with a little ball on each end. I tried some of the On-Stage MSA9720TB, and have yet to have a problem.

also, tripods are cool for folding up and packing away, but round bases might be better for making room on tight stages.

DR pro are 5 year in store wtty. take into guitar center if it falls apart and they swap it.

Atlas are pricey but indestructible

I have the Hercules pivoting stand too and its cool, but takes up a lot of floor space if on a tight stage.

Have used a Tama cymbal boom too that had a threaded adapter for mic clips......very rugged, the rubber rotted out where the boom pivots, guess I could prob get a new piece, but I got 22 years out of it before it started sticking and pieces of rubber fell out.

You know you can pivot the legs to other positions? They don't have to be all the way out

It works better for me in tight quarters, I can put one let at the right angle to tuck it somewhere convenient and out of the way.
