"Relics"

I'm so sick of seeing "relics" on ebay. You know, when some dude is trying to sell a poorly built bass with all the paint scraped off, claiming it's been "reliced". They all look awful, and not at all like a real bass that has acquired it's bumps and bruises the natural way. Does anyone buy these things? I like old basses a lot, but I hate this "relic" trend. I think we should get rid of the term.

I agree that the whole idea of a relic is completely ********. I put real miles on my instruments, but they still don't end up looking like they have been dragged behind my band's trailer. The damage on a vintage instrument adds character because it was acquired in the heat of battle...not in some dude's basement.

But yeah, this thread will be locked soon.

One thing is that, if I had a 62" Jazz, I'm not takin' it to every dive I gotta gig at, but still want that same look/feel.

I'm not talking about what "people do to their basses" I'm talking about what people do to sell basses. And even most of the "professionally" done ones look fake to me. They never look like a bass that actually has 20 (or more)years of gigs and sweat and beer in them.
