Relocating Power Switch

Hey all, I have a question that I can't seem to put into the right words for the Google machine, so I thought I'd talk it out with some real human beings.

I just finished setting up my home studio space in a spare room in the house. The power strip that everything on my desk is plugged into is inconvenient enough that I don't want to have to crawl down under the desk to get to it every time. Nor do I really want to leave my monitors, USB keyboard, interface, computer dock, etc. powered on 24/7.

I just need a master power switch somewhere on the desk that can be used to turn the power strip on and off (or the outlet it's connected to, I suppose). I don't need it to be WiFi, or necessarily even wireless. I live in an older house, and of course the outlet connected to the wall switch by the door is not the one this is all plugged into. That would have been too easy.

What are the possible solutions out there?

Get a power strip with a longer cord and extend it so it can be mounted somewhere more easily accessible and use it as a power switch. Get a rackmount power conditioner with an external power switch and mount it somewhere more easily accessible.

My whole studio runs off a Triplite rack power conditioner. I walk in to my studio, bend down to the front of one of my racks and throw a switch

It's a little spendy, but Furman (and others) make power sequencers that power up equipment in a specified order with an adjustable delay so you don't have to hear the various clicks, pops and thumps through your monitor speakers. It's a 1U rackmount power strip and can be controlled remotely via a simple low voltage, low current connection to any toggle or pushbutton switch.

From what I can tell, this plugs into the wall, and then the power strip would plug into the back of this plug? So it just inserts at the wall outlet essentially?

I believe that’s correct. Admittedly it’s been a few years since I’ve used one.
