All the old Chicago stuff is great (like others have mention I - VIII was really where it's at). After Chicago VIII they started a brutal downward spiral that the 80's finished off... good god the 80's era of Chicago is utter garbage. However, I digress.
My band is currently playing "Introduction" from Chicago I. Talk about a ton of fun to play man... however that section in 3/4 where the bass and piano are doubling all the root note movement is a pain in the ass to memorize. I refuse to have a stand on stage for what works out to be one page of music of one song.
We're also toying with the idea of doing "I'm a Man".
Oh yeah, we also previously wrote out and arranged "Mongonucleosis" and "Free". We worked up both tunes but dropped them because "Free" just wasn't a crowd pleaser like we thought it was going to be and "Mongonucleosis" sounded too much like a game show theme...
The horns were irritated when we dropped "Free" since they spent so much time in the woodshed on the middle section.
