Double Bass Removable pickup.

I travel a lot without my upright so I depend whatever bass is provided by the gig. (The venues are mostly large and the band can be loud) Can anyone offer advice on a puckup that I can easily place and remove on different uprights? I’m aware of the Realist clip on pickup, but the reviews I’ve read are not encouraging. Thanks.

You can also try a Shadow SH-965 NFX with only one foil under the bass side bridge leg. A bit quiet, but sounds better with one foil only (you have a spare one then), but sounds better than a Realist IMHO. You need a battery and should carry a few spare ones with you in case you forgot to pull the plug out of the battery adapter. The battery adapter also works as an impedance buffer, so any amp would work.
You can use both foils, but that makes your action higher (no big deal if you can compensate with adjusters, but you should not think any bass has them and could be lowered by a millimeter more).
You might want to open the battery adapter (four screws) and out in some (rubber) foam to get rid of some rattling.

This has been my obsession for a while. I have an EAP, but don't use it much for lots of reasons and you've already tried that.

I had the Gage clamp on one..."sound clip?" It was actually okay. Not ideal and your pre-amp/amp eq skills are going to be important, but it's not a terrible solution.

I use the Realist Life Line now. Sonically it's pretty good. In between the original Realist and the Full Circle. It's not as easy on/easy off as the Sound Clip, but it's not bad and could be an option for you.

Mics with all that is good and bad about them. Maybe certain bridgewing pickups, but I haven't met one that I really like yet. I've been waiting for someone to finally solve this problem for years.

Thank you.

I have one of the single shot models and it's done the job. Also makes for a great back-up to whatever else you'd have. More options help solve problems, IMHO.

What about the band thing? I can't think of what it's called and i haven't tried it, but it's a strap that goes around the body of the bass. That would certainly be portable and removable. No idea how well it works.
Terrible. It sounds great but very little volume. Great for someone with a light touch playing a gig most of us could do with no amp.

I need a removable pickup because I mostly play acoustic. I use the old Barcus Berry clamp. It has a great, natural sound and comes off with no issues.

One thing few people know is most old pickups sound great with modern amps (GK MB or better).
