While the BP-100 is definitley easy to take on an of different instruments, It needs a 10 meg ohm load to
sound decent. I used one for a little while when they first were avaliable. Since they couldn't mount it
in the bridge wings, because Underwood had the patten on that design, they used cilps to mount
the pickup agianst the brige. IMHO there are much better choices out there. Fishman's designs
tend to "mirror" the designs of other manufactures. The mounting clips don't work on some
bridge tapers, and gluing the pickup onto someone else's instrument probably wouldn't
be acceptable. Just my take.

Futzing with an Ischell (or other body mount pickup) night after night might get old but may be the best solution, depending on how loud you need to go. Yes, the Band and the big and heavy Realist block thing are not too good, IMO. The wing pickups may need bridge modifications to install.

I would just ask for your basses to include a pickup! You're willing to play strange basses so I wouldn't be too concerned about the pickup supplied. And you can always ask about the pickup beforehand. I suggest bringing your own pre or small amp head to help get your sound right.

Terrible. It sounds great but very little volume. Great for someone with a light touch playing a gig most of us could do with no amp.

I need a removable pickup because I mostly play acoustic. I use the old Barcus Berry clamp. It has a great, natural sound and comes off with no issues.

One thing few people know is most old pickups sound great with modern amps (GK MB or better).
i would never like to tie something around the moving parts of my instrument.

Thank you for the reply. I don’t think anything that depends on wing mounting will work all the time. Two many variables in the basses provided.

The KNA comes with 4 small wooden shims. It would be rare not to have it fit, but possible.

I have issues with that as well. I have a Mike Pecanic Compensated tailpiece so it's not something I want to dampen. I use to have a Fishman
BP-100, and if you use the clamps they mute the bridge a bit, not interested in gluing them to the bridge either. Even the Copper foil Realist
puts metal foil and a peizo element between the bridge foot ant the top. That's why I went with the Ehrlund EAP, which works for me, and
why eventually, I'll probably futz with the Ischell agian, when the model I'm interested in shows up for a decent price in the TB Classifides.
I have ebony adjusters so I'm not interested either the Fishman Full Circle or the Yamahiko. Ideally I'd like to use a mic, in most situations.
The Remic's work pretty well for that. Maybe the Xilson will be the ticket, but even if it isn't I like what I'm using.

A Troy says, it can damage the varnish as it did with my old Hachez bass. Glad I learned that lesson on a more reasonably priced instrument than my current one. It will also tend to move the bridge around.
I can tell you there is no way anyone borrowing any of my basses would be allowed to install a realist.

The DB-1 is a decent wing pickup that is pretty thin, so I think it would be unlikely that you would run into a bridge where the wings slots were too narrow. The shims take care of the rest. If I were in your situation, this is what I would do. In fact it’s what I did in the past when traveling internationally… Couldn’t take a bass, but took the DB 1 to use with whatever I found where I was going.

Those also easy to get a good tone from a modern amp. They do noticeably dampen the acoustic sound, though. I use a volume pedal and keep the amp off as much as I can. The BB clamp is very light and I can't hear much effect on the acoustic tone.
You can find them cheap on Ebay .
I keep a BP 100 as a back up. It is fine for all amp gigs.

1st option is to request a bass with a quality pickup already installed. Basses with pickups are common in the pizz playing world.
2nd backup option have a removable pickup. I like the Kremona DB1 as well. Great sounding pickup for $99. The shims help it to fit into the bridge wings of most basses. If you need extra shims, guitar picks can do well. The issue that could happen with proper fit is if the spot to place it on the bridge is too curved. That could happen. But this is already the backup option.
