Remove wax without messing up oil finish

Hey guys, I am interested in buying an ibanez sr755 at a great deal but was told the previous owner waxed the original oil finished wood and that it has a waxy residue on the body. Any easy way to remove this without damaging the oil finish?

Oil penetrates the wood while the wax lays on top. Stripping the wax is pretty easy without removing the oil. Fine antique furniture can be cleaned as follows, your bass is fine wood and is no different than furniture.

Apply mineral spirits to a folded cotton cloth. Wipe with the grain, checking cloth and using clean sides until its no longer removing gunk. Let dry. You can then rub a little danish oil back on it to bring back that nice satin shine.

If you choose to, you can then wax it but use only PASTE WAX. You can rub it in, let it dry, and buff to desired shine from matte to hard gloss. Paste wax is long lasting and doesnt need to applied often AND IT DRIES which quickie furniture polishes never do so they get sticky.

If re-working the finish, this is best thing going in terms of paste wax...suggested by Rob Elrick:
