if this helps, just as an option-
i slathered a cheaper version of flex seal on 2 1x15s and a single 12".
built up 2 coats on each. covered all the fur. end result was a textured surface with all fur leveled down and sealed.
they all turned out very cool- a bit industrial looking and now fully resistant to schmutz.
i didn't bother shaving, just went for it. but reasonably carefully, didn't want 'em to look gnarly.
Do you remember the name of the cheaper flex seal. Applied with a putty knife? Any sanding afterwards?
