Replacement for Markbass Club 121 Compression Driver.

Hello, the compression driver horn is gone and I need to replace it.

The original is a SICA Z009442:
SICA 1'' tweeter CD 78.26/245 Z009442 32W 8 Ohm

Diameter: 78 mm
Impedance: 8 ohms
Music power: 32 W
Resonance frequency: 1500 Hz
Voice coil diameter: 25 mm
Sensitivity: 105.5 dB

I will like to know if any of you were able to get an equivalent of another brand, the shipping of the Sica alone is $50 plus $40 for the part.

I wonder if any of you replaced one like this before with another brand.

$40 is fairly cheap for a compression driver...IMHO your problem is shipping, which will still be $50 if you buy a cheap tweeter. IMHO get the correct driver.

As long has you have the original horn lens, the SICA should bolt right in with no mods. If you get a different tweeter, you will likely need to drills holes, or build a mounting plate.

The amp is designed to work with the original tweeter. A different tweeter will not perform exactly the same. Maybe you will notice and maybe not.

The Eminence BG25-8 is intended as a tweeter for two way bass cabs. It has a slightly more power handling and the same recommended crossover 2.5Khz. Rated sensitivity is 105.2dB compared to 105.5dB for the Sica Dispersion is 60 degrees. Sica does not list dispersion. The BG25-8 would probably be a suitable sub, but it costs $49 and I doubt it would mount in your cab without mods.

This page includes bolt on drivers with 2,3, and 4 patterns. The Sica appears to have all three: Exit Diameter, Impedance, Mounting Type (parts-express.com)

I limited results to 1" compression drivers and sorted the results by price low to high. The cheapest option is $29.91, so you save $10. But will the part bolt on to your horn and how will it sound? IMHO getting the proper part is worth spending an extra $10.

Thanks @Wasnex for the detailed explanation and yes, the shipping is the killer, I was asking just in case there was an alternative brand or replacement , I do have still the original one so I can use the original parts to mount it.

Shipping is $50 from Europe to US, that is what I was trying to avoid and the shipping is time.

I was also not able to find a SICA one on the usual US stores but I guess I will have to order the one from Europe.

I'm not a fan of tweeters on bass cabs. If it were my cab, I would just rewire it to bypass the crossover and the tweeter.

I had both types but I really like it with tweeter.

Note that the tweeter being mentioned has non-standard mounting holes and is designed to attach to the specific horn flair that it ships with.

Here is the replacement diaphragm, not hard to do if you are careful and have some patience.

Hello @agedhorse thanks, yes I know how to disassemble it since I already did it to test it.
The other problem I saw is that it seems to be damaged by humidity.

The diaphragm does not seem damaged but there is no measurement, like if the circuit is open.

If it’s open, it’s bad. The humidity damage isn’t a big deal. Slip a piece of tape in the gap and clean it up.
