Replacement pickup for Mike Kurr Fender bass?

My wife bought me this bass as a present - lucky me :) BUT the tone sucks. I so badly want to like it but my Gretsch G2220 sounds much better (and is louder). With that said, what neck pickup can I replace to get a similar sound to the Gretsch. Something with more attack, presence and clarity.

I would like to match it as close to the G2220 single coils as I want the tones (and volume) to be as consistent as possible.

If I recall - Mike also replaced the neck pickup - but I cannot find that info anywhere.

This one? That’s a wide range humbcuker. Pretty rare, and uncommon size. I’d try make it work. Consider wiring it in parallel or even split to single coil. Other than that, I’d look for a new pickguard with a more standard pickup, and go from there…
