Replacement pickups for Music Man Bongo 6?

Don't be too hard for me, but I never understood why MusicMan doesn't give you some options when it comes for electronics or wood types for the body.

I mean, I really like the looks of the Bongo 6, but it sounds so dull.. Basswood isn't really the kind of wood you should use for boutique basses, IMO..

I think the custom build Bongo 6 John Myung had in 2010, was more boutique than the stock Bongo's :Swamp Ash body, Maple neck and Ebony fingerboard. Still the stock MM pups and electronics, but like you said, Bartolini's would have been a nice fit. And as a preamp something like Nordstrand or Aguilar...

But that's just me

Back in the day I knew several bassists who swapped out their MM pups for Bartolinis and had good results. Not sure if Bartolini makes a wide apeture pup like that, but the US Bartolinis tend do add a darker tone (some of the imports don't do that as much).

Basswood and swamp ash sound very similar. My basswood '87 Ibanez sounds very nice with my pickups in it.

They probably chose basswood because it's easy to carve.

Most have been a importnant thing for them, looking at the round shape of the Bongo

No problem with that, I sometimes bend the 24th fret note to get a higher pitch or reach for an artificial harmonic. The more frets the better!
