Replacement speakers for Peavey 1516 cabinet

THE cross over is 600hz on the 1516 bass cab they are a mid bass full rang 8 inch speakers my guess is about 97 db 78hz-4000khz the 15 inch woofer is a black widow speaker the max power of this cab is 400watts at 4 ohms.
For what it's worth -- maybe consider a better cab or two? We have a bassist in our town who uses a 1516, and her rig is pretty well known as the crappiest sounding rig in the region. But then it's really subjective... and I'm so old and usually wrong in everything I say.
this was the best cab they ever made. peavey will tell you this to. they only made them for a short time then they stop making them. that is why people love this cab
peavey is coming out with the 1516 again. don't know when but that's what peavey told me.he he I have one and like it a lot. you are funny.

They did to 8 to be different. AND 6 inch speakers back then could not handle much watts. this cab is old.
I have one and I deeded this info. I have to fix mine. There are still a lot of people who has this cab. this is for new comers.
FWIW, I have an old Peavey 1516 which I've modified by lowering the port tuning, adding damping, plus a piezo tweeter. While it does not sound nearly as good as my true 3-way fEARful 15/6/1, I can still get a decent sound out of it with judicious EQ. In short, I don't think it sounds awful. The weight is more of an issue for me... close to 100 lbs.

I AM GOING TO USE A SELENIUM D250-X 1" GWPHENOLIC HORN DRIVER AND A DAYTON HO8RW 8 INCH ROUND WAVEGUIDE 1" THREADED. AT PARTS EXPRESS.
THE HORN DRIVER IS 400-9,000 NO CROSSOVER NEED 150 WATTS 8 OMHS BUT I WILL USE A 6DB OCTAVE CROSSOVER TO GET IS AT 600HZ.

@12bass : This is exactly what I want to do!!! I have a 1516 in perfect condition that to upgrade and use with a modeler for bass and for guitar until I build a real Fearful 15/6/1. Will upgrade one 8" and replace the other 8" by a tweeter. How's the sound with prerecorded music on the modded 1516? And compared to Fearful 15/6/1? Want to know only for prerecorded music.
