Replacement speakers for Peavey 1516 cabinet

The 2 8in speakers have been gone for a while, and now the 15in Black Widow is rattling. Anyone have advice on what type replacement speakers I should get?
Im a novice and too embarrased to say how long Ive been playing without learning anything about my rig. I really like this cabinet and want to keep it with replacement speakers.

Pretty sure the 8's in those were Scorpions, can't remember if the 15 was a 1505 or 1502 model Black Widow. The 8's will have to be reconed or re-purchased, you can buy a replacement basket for the 15 but you must pull it out and check the model number to get the proper replacement basket.

I owned that cabinet a long time ago. I liked it better than the 1820 I also owned.

I once blew the voice coil on the 15, and got a new basket for 75 bucks, or whatever. I never had any issues with the 8's.

Anyway, I don't see the need to switch to a different brand or style of speakers. If Peavey still makes them, go with original stock replacements. Or as has been mentioned, get those reconed.

Stock speaker is 1502-4 BW per Invalid Link Removed You can get one for $86 from US Speaker.

Not sure about the stock 8" speakers. I own a 1516 cab also and I actually emailed Peavey CS today asking for specific info on them. Haven't heard back yet but they usually reply pretty fast. I've been told that Peavey never made an 8" Scorpion and I don't see it on the Peavey speaker page referenced above. I'll post more info when I receive Peavey's reply.

Maybe it's Sheffields, I'm thinking, getting confused now. Mine were the ones where the front of the frames looked like brushed aluminum and the sides were cut so it wasn't a perfect circle.

Looks like this

That's not the exact same speaker but the 8's in mine "looked like" Scorpions.

pretty sure that Peavey is using Sheffields in their TVX series but still using their Scorpions and Black Widows in the Tour and Pro series (although the tour series utilize neodymium speaker magnets instead of ferrite). I have an old hartle 4 x 10 cab and i replaced all the original drivers with Eminence Delta Lites) which have a much better crsip sound than the Hartke drives and with neodymium magnets and aluminum baskets are also much lighter.....

Honestly if you liked the sound of the original speakers just buy replacements from Peavey or a Peavey dealer.

As rugaar mentioned above, Peavey doesn't list 8" replacement speakers on their Speaker Usage Reference Guide. I put in a request also (and Im curious what they will say since they don't manuf. a bass cabinet w/ 8" spkrs), but figured since I was here I would ask if anyone has recommendations for 8" replacement spkrs for a bass cabinet.

Rugaar, you hear anything?

Yep, I got a reply a day or two ago. Not much info, though.

The speaker is a stamped frame 8 ohm speaker. The old part # was 70777044.
This speaker is no longer available.

Nope, the 8" were not Scorpions, they were a generic brand 8" speaker. BTW, that was my favorite cabinet Peavey ever made. Pretty portable, a great balanced sound (quite unlike the weird mids of the 1810 and the 1820), and reliable.

As long as you didn't plug a full-range signal into the "bi-amp Hi" inputs, those 8s were pretty rugged. In fact, Peavey recommended that if you were bi-amping that you plugged the highs into the full-range input anyway, as that would use the internal crossover to protect the 8's. That works as long as your bi-amp crossover is crossing at or above the internal crossover.

But you should still be able to get the right BW basket for the 15. There's a lot of different BW 15's so make sure you get the right number off the speaker when you order the basket.
