Replacing a tuning head...

I have an ESP LTD Surveyor bass with a broken tuning head (for the G string). Their is nowhere to get the original piece, but I can replace it with a Fender tuning head. It would look right (from the front) despite being very slightly bigger, but I am worried that it could possible ruin the tension/tuning/something I don't even KNOW can be ruined on my bass. Bassically (pun INTENDED) I want to know if it is safe to do it.

If it fits it'll work fine with no danger to your bass. It won't affect tension at all except the way it should during tightening and loosening while tuning and all the rest of the tuners do.

Where did you get the idea that it could, just out of curiosity?
