Replacing an Ibanez ATK pickup with an EMG MMTW?

Has anyone swapped only the pre in their ATK? That'd be my first try when it comes to tone. I'm thinking of an Aguilar OBP-3 in particular.

Oh, and if anyone is interested in pics, shortly after I got mine, I moved the pots and switch around to mimic a Stingray's layout (which I'm used to, as my other 2 basses are SR5's). It looks cool and works great.

Howdy - as one of those asking, I wish I could provide the pickup, but I sold it a while ago to someone here on TB.

That being said, I am sure SOMEONE with the stock pickup could easily measure it.

Measuring is OK, but I'd like to have one to study....

David - when and if you can make a replacement for the ATK, are you planning to do it in a radiussed case like the stock pickup, or flat? I personally don't care either way, but others may....

... because if I have an actual pickup, I can make a mold from the case. Or at the very least have something to model.

I wouldn't mind even borrowing one.

I don't radius my blades, but I do compensate for the curvature of the neck.

NOTE: The pickup in the 4 string and 5 string ATKs is the SAME - same size, same build. Ibanez only lists one pickup for both. It uses blades, so that makes sense, and from a manufacturer's perpespective is much easier to deal with (one pickup for both)

That's the best way to do it. I went to blades early on because making pickups to fit all the string spacings out there would be a nightmare... or the selection would be limited.

Blades also have a more uniform magnetic field, and pull the strings less than poles, so they are good for strong magnets like neos.

Now you are talking! I think I can open a DWG file (I have some kind of a CAD program on my Mac) .... I know I can open a PDF. Both would be fabulous.

I'm waiting to have the cover made so I can make some molds.

I have no ETA, but it will be after the Wal pickup is finished (which is just around the corner).

Unless you own an ATK 100/200, the stock ATK pickup is more than fine and doesn't require any replacement IMHO. I know I'd take it over an EMG any time.
The size and 3 coils aren't what you'd call standard.
