Double Bass Replacing fingerboard on Kay M1B

I just paid $1400 for a new Fingerboard, Nut, bridge adjustment, and to repair a crack in the heel of the neck. I'm in Chicago.
From what the luthier (Mark Sonksen) told me, $1000 of that was going to the Fingerboard and set up.
Mark did a good job, and I won't complain about the price since he lent me a very nice bass to cover some gigs and a recording session while mine was in his shop.
But Damn! This is an expensive axe to maintain.
Too bad electric uprights just don't cut it...
