It shows how big the pool is though, and for 6 lifeguards that seems like a pretty small pool to me, people and waves included.

The question is not are they doing their job in general but were they doing their job at the moment the kid drowned.

The result of the lawsuit may not represent what you (or I for that matter) think justice should be, but that doesn't mean that in the process it won't be proven with facts that the lifeguards werent doing their job.

They have security cameras in such places I'm sure, so we'll know soon enough anyhow.

Thats exactly what I've been saying. Although, while it is the parents' responsibility, I still find it screwed up that with 6 lifeguards around a kid drowned and died. If I were one of the lifeguards I would be beating myself up.

For the love of God, how do you leave a 4 year old in a wave pool unattended!!!!!! Here's how the story ends:

1. She gets huge sums of money from the amusement park.
2. Instead of smartly investing in her remaining child's future, she blows it all on cars, jewelry, etc.

I know there is no way of knowing, but just a guess. My friend worked with a guy who's kid got run over by a tractor/lawnmower of some sort on the grounds of their trailer park. They get a nice settlement and ended up blowing it all in a year (for example, wife buys an old convertible mustang, gets no comprehensive insurance, and totals it driving drunk). It is just sad, it really is.

People say that it is an infringement of a persons basic human right to have children - I say what about the right of the child to have a parent who is able to provide the correct care an attention....and not to leave them to fend for themselves in a wave pool.

I agree. I don't know how you do it, or who runs it, but something has to be done. You have to jump through more hoops to drive a car, go hunting, fishing, etc. It's ridiculous.

When will people realize that having kids is HARD WORK. I love my kids more than anything, but some days...you have to deal with it. Your life changes when you have kids. They come first. It doesn't mean you have to give up everything, but you have to change.

There's lots of talk locally about city ordinances for covering pools, wearing bike helmets, etc. People complain that the city shouldn't be telling them how to raise their kids. I disagree. I'm not a big "kids rights" guy - like "divorcing your parents" and that crap - but kids have the right to be safe and grow up - even if their parents are idiots.

If an adult wants to be an idiot and put their life at risk, fine. A child doesn't know enough yet, so they need guidance. I could go on and on but what's the use. This country has moved so far away from personal accountability and responsibility that I don't know if we can ever get back. Very sad.

This woman needs a *****slap! I see these parents everywhere. How dare you blame the lifeguards for your son's death. Not that being a parent is easy, but the #1 rule of being a parent is knowing where you kid is at all times. Especially near a WAVE Pool.

This is really sad. I feel for her, but her response needs to be addressed.
