Resurrection Thread- Anyone own only ONE bass?

I had 1 P bass for about 8 years… right before Covid i got a jazz, since then i’ve had 2. Gas sure is tempting and things like reverb make it easy. I try not to spend a ton of time looking for that reason but if i get anything i will sell.

But I'll say this...

After decades of ONE and only one, I got a second. Then, inexplicably, a tuning peg sheared off 10 minutes before taking the stage. There WAS a house back-line back-up beater P-copy that i ended up having to play. Now, I always take a back up.

I owned one bass for the first 25 years, then owned two basses for most of the next 25. I've had some nice instruments but could easily have survived with one for the whole 50, unfortunately the internet is a very tempting place.

When I buy a new bass it overlaps until I'm satisfied I've made the right choice, then the old one either becomes the backup or is sold. I understand the guys who want to keep every bass they've ever owned, but my old bass has been replaced, so why do I want to keep it?

I've bought many more amps and cabs since the advent of the internet, but basses are a personal thing and I stick with the "best friend" and a backup approach.

The most I ever had at once was three. Generally, I had just one bass. I say “had” because I’ve pared back to no bass, which is about as minimalist as it gets.

While I could own one in terms of sonic variety, I do like to have a backup. The P was my #1 for 3 years; the G&L just came in and is giving the P a run for its money!

Recently I picked up a lakland 44-94* from a fellow member here on TB.

So I have only one bass. I love this bass. This bass loves me back. I does everything I could ever ask from a bass. The neck is a dream. The tone is to die for. It’s perfectly balanced. It’s a keeper! I have zero need for another bass!!!

so why, why, why, do I scour the TB classifieds, reverb, etc on a daily basis just in case something else pops up. I was perfectly happy with zero basses for ten years.

Yes, I have a problem!!!
