I only play 1. It's the 1. But I have it's twin and 2 other basses in a closet. I pity my heirs when they try to figure out what to do with all my detritus when I am gone. Ton of cabs a few amps. I would thin but shipping sucks.

I had only one for many years. My 10,000 hours bass. Then I took a career break, and when I came back to it, bought a 2008 USA P. That lasted for a few years until I found TalkBass!! Curse You GAS! The number rose quickly after that and has always hovered around 20. How can one part with them??

In late 80'S here in Italy was common to have one instrument only one bass...than five strings incoming and Fretless revivals suggest common bass players to have more than one.Professionals had some but not a lot, It was a different age with two basses one to use and one to replace they could do everything.

Buying a new bass was not so easy and sometimes very expensive(Steinberger, Fender, Aria ProII...Alembic...Status for example) resell a bass was absolutely easy and remunerative.

Nowadays time are changed, no one bassist has only one if he plays not once a month...

Had just one from 1997 through 2007: G&L L-2000 fretless. Not the case any more, and likely never will be.

I had one bass for about 30 years. It was a Rickenbacker, modded by the previous owner to have three pickups. I still have it, and if it was the only bass I had now, I'd be quite happy with it. But about 12 years ago, I figured out that I could give people money and they'd give me bass guitars in return.

I have 5 with three on order and one that i made an offer on and hope it is accepted. And i have 4 tube amps, three cabs, and a combo amp.
