Heading there myself, 3/31/2025. Excited but also terrified (mostly because of what's happening to SS and Medicare administration - epic bad timing!!)
I feel pedestrian for bailing at 65! Been retired for a decade, music has been central with the exception of the lock down years. Enjoy and good luck.
I've been retired for quite a few years and one of the best things for me is that when I wake up in the morning and I think about what I may do today, the answer is that I will do just about any @*&^ing thing I feel like doing.

I was lucky to retire at 62 and was able to start saying 'Yes' to a lot of things I wanted to do but didn't have time.
For a few years I was playing in 4 different bands that were all musically different.

Good for you! Enjoy! I retired 16 yrs ago - no regrets, no looking back. Work was getting in the way of music.

I went out at 60, eight years ago, and never looked back and never missed my professional career day gig for a minute. I had been ramping up my music life for about 15 years or more before that, and just rolled over into playing/writing/recording as one of my main activities. It has worked out great for me, and I hope it works out for you as well Pep!
And that feeling of being able to do pretty much whatever you feel like every day is still such a great feeling. That and no more nagging thoughts on Sundays about the coming work week.

I've put in my notice as well...End of June ...already signed up for golf lessons and looking at bass lessons
Congrats. I retired 3 years ago when the company I worked for was bought. There was a “restructuring” which always means “workers get cut, owners get fat.” Turned out to be the best thing that could have happened!
I had seen it coming and had saved enough to live on for 18 months. I couldn’t find another job that I really wanted so I finally made retirement “official.”
Enjoy it. If you take care of yourself this can be the best time of your life. If you don’t, it can be the worst.

I retired at 55 after 39 years of wrenching, with the last 36 years spent in the same shop.
