Congrats! I have 19 years to go to hit 67. Thankfully I've made it to the point in my career where I'm going to get bumped to the executive team this year, so while the mind takes a daily beating at least I'm at a level where I'm comfortable and relatively stable, and even if the second weren't true, I've made enough connections in my industry to land pretty much anywhere I want to. But I am looking forward to selling my house, packing up, and retiring to a nice island somewhere in the Caribbean.

At 73, I continue to work a three-day week in front of a computer as a marketing/graphic design/photographer consultant for a small environmental company - pretty cushy job! Can't count on the economy or government anymore so even tho i have plenty to live on i enjoy working - and the company needs me! Got plenty of time to engage in my own interests so will probably go to 75 too.

I'm 8 months in.
About 25 years ago, I stumbled into my 1st "real" career opportunity, but at the expense of regular gigging.
The payoff was being able to retire at 60.

I'm practicing and improving - my playing is becoming better and more consist than ever. (I've finally matured)
Gigs are picking up "gradually", but most importantly, I've been incredibly fortunate to play with some top-notch players.

Other than that - I haven't got much else done... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Congratulations. How come you waited so long? I bailed out as soon as I was able at 65 - 12 years ago. The time has passed quickly but music is still what I do most. Still gigging.

I was downsized at age 53. Lost my house, 2 cars and used up most of my retirement trying to keep the house. It’s not easy starting all over at that age but it can be done.

Yep, retired at 65.... Retirement is an art. Its the constant quest to refine your day into perfect little segments so you don't go crazy from the boredom. Go to the gym, go to the store, take over the cooking (she never could cook), practice a lot, take lessons, read books again, get your yard looking nice, finish all them old projects you started and most important of all. To learn to see the humor in life. Learn how to not give a hoot and laugh at all the ignorance around us. Aren't you glad you don't have to work with "those people" anymore? No more getting up at 4AM and driving 45 min in whats comparable to the Talladega 500 every morning. Now I stand out front and wave at them all driving off to work. Coffee in hand, sweat-pants, feeding the birds.

and as DWBass recommends: get on that Medicare program now + part D for help with prescriptipn drugs - not that I use any, but would be helpful in the future. I did not sign up for part C "Advantage" cuz I don't need/use anything it provides.

Waited 'til I was 67 and 4 months to enroll in SS, because one gets a little bump in bennies for the wait. But I see that wouldn't concern you in your case seeing as you are over 70 years old.

My wife retired and that was a big change in daily life.
