Well that's it! Call it a career! Just got off the phone with my IBM manager, official exit interview. 43 years and 4 months in the belly of the beast known as IBM....

Were you working in the Mothership in Armonk? Have two family members who were in the IBM space force on the west coast. One retired after working on 390 big iron his whole life and the nephew who decamped to <anotherbigcompany>.
The one working the 390 keeps coming back as a consultant because he knows more about the why things were architected in OS/390-z/OS a particular way. He is working part-ish time and when he comes back he makes a lot more than he did when he was an employee.

Nah, Armonk is just for corporate exec types, I'm an old dinosaur code slinger... Bleepin' mainframe assembler language - I still dream in hex! hehe Worked here at the birthplace of IBM, Endicott, NY, a small group of us stayed on here even after they closed and sold off the site. Eventually they closed the site and we went full time work from home. But corporate doesn't like that, even if we're the last of those with the vanishing skills they so want to keep...
My family's stock-n-trade as well. Hex'n goodness getting right to the metal. Sounds like you might have those same old-school skills and knowledge that keeps bringing my guy back part time and on his terms this go around. Please enjoy the relaxing good times that you have so very much deserved. Peace
