+ 2 on the Italia

A friend of mine has an Italia guitar - appears to be a high quality instrument. If you want to go new - it would be a fine choice - the design certainly has that 60's vibe.

+3 on the Italia, but the Maranello model. I don't have a picture of mine here...but imagine if you will, headstock and entire backside pearloid...entire front ultra sparkle...twin Wilkinson humbuckers...omg, I love it so much, and it's only about $500. Someone with jpgs please put up a Maranello pic

I have a gold Belvedere, and it's awesome. But the Sting sig suggestion ain't bad. Heard a kid from Brooklyn rocking out with one through an Ampeg rig, and it sounded amazing. Serious balls.

If you're playing surf, the Fender Jag bass would be cool, but to be true to your school...a Fender Jazz, flatwounds, and a pick.

You could do like Eddie & the Showmen and go with Lake Placid Blue, and even a MIM would do just fine....

But yeah, a Jag bass would look sweet with a Jag guitar.
