Is this Cozy Powell in the press release the same drummer that played for Richie Blackmore's Rainbow back in their hey-days in the late 70's?

Plus, one release says, "the late Cozy Powell"? When did he pass away?

FWIW, I will be picking up the Steve Khan Eyewitness "Live In Koln 1994" cd set. Everyone probably "owns" the boot of this by now (3 cds worth).
True story-
I had the 3 cd set back around 1997...I get online about '98/'99 & get involved at a Jazz site where people were talking about their "rare" albums. So I blab about a 3-cd set of Live in Koln Eyewitness...couple days later, I receive an e-mail from Steve Khan. He tells me he never released this set...where did I buy it? Gulp...
Anyway, glad he's finally putting it out.

I wrote to Stanley twice back in a time when paper and typewriters were the thing. He replied both times. I later related this to a bass instructor friend who was very active in the jazz scene and his reply was, "Yeah, those jazz cats are usually pretty cool."

I personally did not think Al was standoffish. I used the incident to relate how even a young musician appreciated his work.

And then there was the Marcus Miller concert my guitar-playing friend attended. Let's say he no longer thinks of the bass in the same light. :D

Totally pumped about the RTF Reuinon. Saw them at the Academy of Music in Philly in March of '83. Loved it. But this should even be sweeter. Nice to see Corea/McLaughlin will be touring together too. Beautiful!

More than anything I hope it starts a trend towards real musicianship coming back to contemporary music. Herbie Hancock winning the Grammy for Album of the Year was a nice sign. Hopefully a whole new generation will "hear" this as the real thing.

Finally, can the RTF reunion start the ball rolling? Can Jan Hammer and Jerry Goodman resolve their differences with John McLaughlin so that the original Mahavishnu Orchestra can reunite? Sadly, Weather Report never can now that Joe Z is gone...but how about Eleventh House? Headhunters? C'mon guys...nobody's getting any younger. Do it now!!

Yippee! I just bought tickets to see RTF in NY in August. Their band website is finally up at http://www.return2forever.com/index.cfm .

Unfortunately they have only posted one date so far, so as a result I felt obligated to buy tickets since I have no way of knowing if they're coming closer to me. Oh well, I won't be too upset if I have to see them more than once. BTW, the venue's filling up quick and I think they only went on sale yesterday.

It looks like I will be making a trip to LA this summer!!!!!!!!!!! The rehearsal video is AWESOME!!!!!!!!! The bass that Stanley is playing looks like his new Lowenherz bass. It sounds a lot like an Alembic to me-but with a little more punch!!! If you click on the Manual section, you can hear sound clips of the Lowenherz.
