Reverb did me wrong

I sold an Ibanez SR405EQM bass in mint condition on Reverb. I convinced the customer to spend $75 and get the MB300C custom SR case as well so it wouldn't get damaged. I had pictures of the bass in the case to show her how nice it was.

But I messed up and sent the wrong box. I was selling two bass guitars and made a mistake. I shipped out this bass the next day and they arrived together at 1:38 PM ands were signed for by the customer.

I messaged the customer at 3:30 letting her know I see they both arrived. At 4:19 she sent me this photo and the next one:

Here it what the bass looked like when I shipped:

The case is undamaged. The box is undamaged. The customer claims the photos don't show the damage and it was there all along. Looking at the damage the chips of paint are fresh. This damage would have shown up in the pictures. I had insurance with Reverb.

Reverb is giving her the label to send it back, making me refund the money in 24 hrs., and I have to wait for a freight claim. But it didn't get damaged in shipping, anyone paying attention can see that.

I have only 5 star reviews, I have sold basses as mint and received 5 stars, I have (had) an add on Reverb showing every chip and blemish on the bass guitar. Nope, too bad. That doesn't matter. I have to pay to get my bass guitar trashed and sent back to me.

I will NEVER use Reverb again. If their stance changes, I will update this post, but be aware. Reverb does NOT have your back. If you use their service and your guitar gets dropped, you are on your own.

Tough situation. As a neutral party I can't say who is at fault here and the photos Indeed do not show the spot her photos are focusing on, so...

Take photos from all angles and videos from now on? Im really sorry you have to deal with this. It sucks!

If I had a photo of that very spot at that angle, do you really think it would change their stance?
How would one know what spot to photograph?
Do you think that damage would look like that after shipping from Florida to Pittsburgh?

I am at the distinct advantage of knowing how I shipped the bass. My word is all I have. That isn't enough.

I had that happen to me too, last year . I sold a bass in absolute mint condition. A few days later I got a very angry message accusing me of misrepresenting the item. There was a huge chunk taken out of the end corner of the body, but mysteriously the box showed no signs of damage.

I bit down hard, refunded the seller and ate the shipping both ways

This definitely sucks and I would be enraged as well, but from Reverb's point of view the evidence they have equally supports both your claim that the buyer dropped the bass after opening, or the buyers claim that you packaged it like that. You may have photos from right before you packaged it, but there is nothing but proving you didn't drop it right after taking the photos. Of course there is nothing to prove that the buyer didn't drop it and is now trying to F you over. Hopefully it gets resolved. What the photos do prove, or at least strongly support, is that the bass was not damaged during shipping. I would be relentless in contacting their customer service if they are being uncooperative. Short of pursuing legal action, which would almost certainly cost you far more than the value of that bass, I'm not sure there is much else you can do.

Makes me wonder if you basically have to record a completely continuous and uninterrupted video of you packaging the bass and dropping it off with the carrier to prove you didn't damage it before packaging in order to protect yourself from this kind of garbage.

I'm not saying he sold the bass in that condition, but it is difficult to tell if the damage was there in the before pictures. I really don't know what Reverb is supposed to do in this situation.

And what's happening with the other bass that was accidentally sent?

The buyer held it hostage as extortion until Reverb promised a refund. How nice is that?
