It's really hard to damage a bass that severely. Almost like someone did a Pete Townsend on it. Massive hit. I'm editing and adding that if it's buyers remorse and trying to get out of it, that's an extreme example. What a horrible situation.I sold an Ibanez SR405EQM bass in mint condition on Reverb. I convinced the customer to spend $75 and get the MB300C custom SR case as well so it wouldn't get damaged. I had pictures of the bass in the case to show her how nice it was.
But I messed up and sent the wrong box. I was selling two bass guitars and made a mistake. I shipped out this bass the next day and they arrived together at 1:38 PM ands were signed for by the customer.
I messaged the customer at 3:30 letting her know I see they both arrived. At 4:19 she sent me this photo and the next one:

Here it what the bass looked like when I shipped:

The case is undamaged. The box is undamaged. The customer claims the photos don't show the damage and it was there all along. Looking at the damage the chips of paint are fresh. This damage would have shown up in the pictures. I had insurance with Reverb.
Reverb is giving her the label to send it back, making me refund the money in 24 hrs., and I have to wait for a freight claim. But it didn't get damaged in shipping, anyone paying attention can see that.
I have only 5 star reviews, I have sold basses as mint and received 5 stars, I have (had) an add on Reverb showing every chip and blemish on the bass guitar. Nope, too bad. That doesn't matter. I have to pay to get my bass guitar trashed and sent back to me.
I will NEVER use Reverb again. If their stance changes, I will update this post, but be aware. Reverb does NOT have your back. If you use their service and your guitar gets dropped, you are on your own.
Had the label for days. Just held it.
Not to mention there would be the damaged chips in the case.I can't believe a bass could receive this kind of damage while in the case. Even if it could/did the packaging would be damaged and the buyer should have reported the damage upon receiving it. Obviously Reverb is protecting the buyer. I would pursue filing a complaint with Reverb and hope they can apply some reason. Good luck

I think you're getting screwed, man, but I don't see any way out. Maybe you just have to let it go as an outlier that happened to land in your lap. You can file negative feedback on the customer, for what that's worth, not much, but probably makes you feel better. I wouldn't put all the blame on Reverb ... they're just the middleman. It's the customer that's clearly in the wrong here. That's not Reverb's fault.

For years now. I have a pre-pack video walk through, packing and drop-off. A great many of TB buyers have seen their newly purchased bass ahead of time in great closeup detail, narrated to them personally before I shipped it.Makes me wonder if you basically have to record a completely continuous and uninterrupted video of you packaging the bass and dropping it off with the carrier to prove you didn't damage it before packaging in order to protect yourself from this kind of garbage.
That sucks, and it’s the reason way I take a 30+ minute video of a bass inspection and packing it up. I start recording, do an inspection on camera of every inch of the bass, and do not stop recording until the shipping box is taped up with the label on it.
It removes all doubt of the condition of the bass when shipped. I then keep the video for a month, just in case. It’s actually saved me once.
It’s not Reverbs job to tell people how to package products.I wish I had thought of that. Reverb should recommend this to all vendors.
