Watt related - one of his latests projects re-uniting w/killer guitarist Nels Cline and the assault & battery drummer from Deerhoof (don't know the singer) The Watt looks to be holding a very nice early '66 dot/bound/pops Oly white Jazz in this promo shot.

Watt is about to start a tour with Jerry on drums and Tom Watson (also of the Secondmen) on guitar, opening for the Meat Puppets. On the night I'm seeing the show, a band featuring Husker Du's Greg Norton on bass goes on first. On a few of the other dates, Grant Hart is opening. This may be as close to the glory days of SST as we're gonna get!
Very cool - which show will you be attending? I've got tickets for Ithaca, NY next Tuesday. I'll love to meet some fellow TB'ers.

Update to my earlier post in this thread about colors - I see that the Wattplower is available in Rock Orange now! More reddish than my favorite orange colors but looks pretty good! Of course, now I don't know if I like it better than that green!

I also saw that tour, and it truly was mind-blowing. Who was on drums when you saw him?
I'm drawing a blank. It was the second round of the tour (Putting the engine to bed, or something like that). Would have been about 1998. He actually opened for Mudhoney and blew them off the stage (they were having kind of an off night)
Probably Bob Lee? I'm pretty sure that's who was on drums at the gig I saw.

Looking forward to the arrival of a Powder Yellow Wattplower. Interested to see how it compares to my Kiesel short scale Vaders and My Gibson SG "Frankenbass"
awesome! I was looking at maybe picking up a Gibson SG bass and came across these wattplowers...man, these things look killin'! do they have the 1.5 degree tiltback on the necks like gibsons?
The Wattplower has been with me for 2 weeks. I'm liking it more everytime I play it.
Only mod I've made is moving the front strap button to the upper horn of the bass. Did this also on the "Franken SG" it helps the balance the bass and keeps the bass "into" you.

all the stuff joe and ken at reverened guitars worked w/me on for this bass came out of practicality of working gigs. all this started when they came to a couple of my detroit gigs in the late 2000s and took measurements of my little gibsons I modified for gigs (I record w/long scales sitting down but my hands get tore up w/gig after gig on tour so short scales help me w/that hell) so that's where the starting point comes from. there were a bunch of prototypes and I would play them for the whole gig (detroit/toledo area) and then give them back, telling joe and ken what I didn't dig. for sure the pickup wasn't happening - so I asked for a pbass type but w/rails cuz the string spacing is more narrow and also I like to pull on the strings sometimes for drama (sorry!) so it's got magnets under coils like a gibson and not magnetic pole pieces like a fender. started at 11k (dc ohms resistance), tried 13k and ended up w/12k. the headstock being four tuners in a row is cuz I would hit the tuners ('d' string especially) on my drummer's crash cymbals cuz I like my drummers way up front stage and close to me. harder to do this way. also balances way better than my gibsons, the hipshot lightweight tuners are also a big reason. I had the body shape change to more of "lollypop" bottom that was symmetrical so it wouldn't fall over like a jbass does when you lean it up on something and it also fit better in my body space when I put it (prototypes had no back bevel, the ones now do) - remember, for me these are basses for gigs. the string-through stuff was to help w/tension, also the [This invalid link has been removed] strings I used on it, the bridge (already just wrote about that here) was a HUGE improvement over the prototypes, HUGE. it's a really bitchin' bridge hipshot made, much respect. as for wood, the gibsons were mahogany and these wattplowers are korina (also called white limba) mostly - the neck's a composite. I put glow-in-the-dark multiple side-dots on the neck cuz my eyes aren't so good. changed the knobs to tophats cuz I like the numbers and the pointers and after testing stuff out, decided on both pots being 500k ohms.
looks for me was more about color so it was decided orange, then yellow (one prototype had a faded yellow so I sent them my yellow casio watch for a reference!) and finally green would be the colors.

for me, the best place for a pickup is where leo fender put it on the kind of pbass james jamerson played. for me, too close to the neck is too muddy and too close to the bridge is too thin. I think also that pickup's got more punch. I know it's a split humbucker w/two coils but it's one coil for each pair of strings. here's the basses I got now:
