Reverse Alchemy Weight Loss Bridge (headless)

I joined a makerspace a few years ago, this is my project to get comfortable on our little CNC mini mill.

A Hohner B2V 5 string is the donor bass. I replaced the 2 largest pieces of the bridge, which were originally steel, with aluminum. The parts on the left replaced the ones on the right. Seen rough cut in this pic.

These parts went from 474 grams to 213 grams. :hyper: So 55% of the weight is gone.

I made a few design changes that I think improve it, and also to make it easier to cut on our hobbyist CNC. I might try to make some from scratch for a future build, it would be cool to anodize them.

Hmmm. Nice. I'm thinking you need an appropriate toolholder for your mini-mill to do engine-turning, which should be a treat with CNC to put the grindy circle in just the right spot over, and over, and over again, rather than some poor schmuck turning dials. Would be a nice finishing touch.

As seen on the Spirit of St. Louis (front part), or on fancy watch parts...
