reverse headstocks

Tim Commerford has been known to do it.

as string diameter increases so does tension?
How is that a benefit?( Unless I am quoting the wrong section of the post):)

With a reverse headstock, the "fattest" string (larger diameter) is the longest, which increases tension... In other words, it feels "stiffer." It also means the shorter strings are easier to bend (less tension). This is the way it should be (IMO), especially for guitar. I find this to be a benefit of the reverse headstock (as did Jimi Hendrix). The E feels tighter, and less "floppy" (I'm sure the B on a 5 string bass would also feel tighter). YMMV

But isn't the tension the same regardless of where the tuning peg is, as pitch is a result of tension and mass( if I'm not mistaken) and not tuner-placement?

Evidently, you've not tried this little experiment... I recommending trying it. You could take 2 "big" E strings (I use .056 on Fenders), and test it for yourself on the same guitar! Maybe you will, and maybe you won't be able to tell the difference...

I prefer the feel and sound of the reverse headstock over that of the standard setup, on my Strat... IME/IMO/YMMV, yada yada...

I also believe the folklore that it made a difference to Hendrix. Since I didn't get to ask him myself, I'll just accept the written word of one of his guitar/amp techs...

What'd do you guys think about stripping the headstock on a lefty neck and putting that Upside down backwards Jimi Hendrix logo? Don't worry, the "stratocaster" would of course not make it onto the bass haha
