Yes Panos ..... That is what I thought also when I tried it both ways. OK, we are up to 3 people on the planet now ;) . I'm sure you meant "trebles". However, I do get exaggerated trembles myself before every public show I have to do :D .

I agree with the direction of and type of difference. More high frequencies with the R facing away. On my basses, facing the R toward the bass always resulted in too muffled a sound. So, it seems to depend on the bass, bridge, player, strings, etc. Whatever works for you! :)

I have the R facing "out" (away from the bass), works great for me...not disagreeing with you Matt...although I know you do tend to swing the other way, in general. :bassist:

well, I finally broke down and ordered the RS for my bass.
For years I have not touched my set up. I like everything very simple and low maintenance, so I am able to play more. Basically I never care for equipment and never really pay much attention to what guys are using, but not long ago Dave Young was in town playing at a local Jazz Club. He rented a bass from a local store that had the RS. I got to play the bass and I was actually truly blown away.
I had long ago made my peace with using the Realist and Underwood, depending on the setting, but the RS changed my mind.
It did sound better at low volume, which was fine when I was playing with drums and piano only, but even when it's loud and bit more unnatural is still better than most pick ups I've tried.
I also think that even when I mic my bass which is ideal, the fact that the sound comes out of a speaker is really unnatural as it is.
practicing acoustically is so perfect that it's hard to imagine how a pick up, microphone or anything else can recreate that sound. based on that I thought that the RS was pretty good.
I just hope I can get mine installed "just right"! :-)

I finally got it today! I am very excited. tried it for a little while, so far so good. the pick up does have a sweet spot. I think I found the right place. And of course the louder you play the more you have to mess with the EQ. But I'll give it a week playing gigs that are almost acoustic to a very, very loud one on Sunday and then I'll decide if I'll get rid of my realist and the underwood.

I just bought a new Rev Solo from Upton and put it on yesterday. WOW, what a great sounding pickup. I've pretty much tried them all, and this is the most natural "mic-like" tone I've ever encountered from a pickup. I got the best result with the R facing the bass on my old carved Mittenwald. It definitely is as good as the Full Circle for feedback to volume ratio, but unlike the FC it adds no piezo tonal coloration.

I couldn't be happier with my Rev Solo, and I think that my trial and error with pickups is over. For now, anyway.:)

yeap. I've been using mine for two weeks now.
I had 3 gigs yesterday, and the first and second one were at moderate volume, and on my first gig the drummer commented that he thought he was hearing more sound out of my bass than my amp. of course, to me I can hear the difference but i guess most people just think my bass is really loud now.
on my second gig the trumpet player was looking to see if I had an amp. I thought that was cool, because his old school and he likes the whole bass without an amp vibe.
then my 3 gig was super loud and I could clear hear the sort of pick up quality when I was sound checking, but as soon as the band comes in and all the sounds are blended together the bass sounds very convincing again.
I give two thumbs up for RS II
