He s certainly my current favorite. Man! His whole musicality is so deep and wonderful.
For sure! This is a chance to post one of my all time favorites: Metheny, Sanchez and Bona doing Bright Size Life. I know, the Jaco version is iconic, but check this version out -- it's so alive and brilliant, even compared to that high standard:

Richard Bona is really in class by himself in America because of his African rhythmic sensibility and his great singing ability. He is probably the player most capable of bass gymnastics and the player least likely to perform them too. That said, I wish he would get involved in some projects that are at least a little more bass oriented.
Here is Richard Bona with his MarkBass Kilimanjaro Signature bass. I know it’s marketing, but naming Cameroonian Richard Bona’s bass after a mountain in Kenya that is probably three or four thousand miles from where he grew up seems goofy to me.

I agree that he’s the complete musical package; Voice, rhythm, Melody, virtuosity.
That famous clip with Bobby McFerrin seals it.

I decided to pick the bass after seeing him in concert. Man, what a player! What a musician!

Not a big fan of the 'look at me' bassists for the most part ... much more interested in stylistic virtuosity as confined to a pop context ... and yet Richard Bona has 'a thang'. In a class by himself. Etienne MBappe too. Glad I opted to 'follow' Dr. Cheese now that I figured that whole feature out.
I'm going to blow some minds here, so please sit down ...

Sorry but i couldn't listen hour and 12 minutes for guitar and bass combination. Yessssssss, they are both good, but i have some artists better.
Oh yes, that Jaco influence! I will never get over the fact that as a teen, Bona learned Jaco’s entire debut album with knowing a shred of theory. He learned all of George Benson’s Breezin’ by heart, including the lyrics to the songs when he could not speak English!
He then learned music in school in France, but saying Bona is gifted is a major understatement.
