RICKENBACKER 2001?

So a guy I know owns a Ric, but I don't know the model, and have not ever seen it. I asked about it, and he said it was a model 2001? Anybody ever heard of it? I know the 3001 (not my favorite Ric, but I've never really heard one, played one, or even seen one in person, so I really wouldn't know), but I've never heard of a 2001. If you can point me to a pic of this Ric, I'd really appreciate it! :bassist:


Oh, and while I've got this thread up, how (sound wise and playability) do the 2030s and 3001s compare to 4001/4003 models? I've always wanted that Ric sound, but 4001s and 4003s are rare in GA much less the other more obscure models.

The 2020 and 3000 series are bolt on necks with different pickups. They don't have the same sound as the 4000 series. They don't have as much of a signature sound, but are versatile and playable I've played some 2020's that are to die for.

My dad told me that the guy told him one of the "Dual outputs" is broken, and that "only the one that picks up ONE pickup is working. Cheap fix, and that's all that's wrong with it."
Sounds alot like a 4000 series with the Rick-O-Sound output.

No, but I forgot, ACTIVE electronics. Does this help? I'm not sure that they're active, but that's what my dad said. He himself hasn't seen the Ric since his days in a band with that guy (who has the "2001"), but he said he remembered it having a really long neck, and actives. Maybe a 4000 series with mods?

Rickenbacker has never made a truely active bass. But that being said the 2030 was advertised as having active electronics. But the tone controls were just treble cut only. It was a passive bass ... no battery.

Maybe a 4001 with mods...

Maybe an 86 2030 that he thinks is a 79 ...

I'm thinking it might be a 4000 series just based on what I've found out here. The fact remains that it is a dual output bass, which is apparently a hallmark of only the 4000 series. It is also in that white finish that I've only seen on 4000 series rics. And I am not sure that they are actives. Maybe they aren't but he thinks they are, or maybe my dad's confused about the electronics. Also, he said that "One of the outputs uses both pickups, one output only uses one pickup." That sounds alot like Rick-O-Sound which I've only heard of on 4000s.

I used to own a white 2030 made in the early 90s. But all 2030 basses had a mono output.
