RICKENBACKER 2001?

I know that the only difference is the body's pickup configuration and pickguard look at first glance. But I'm wondering if the pickups are the same, and if they sound like a 4001/4003.

I'm thinking it's a 4002. Does a 4002 sound and play like the 4001s and 4003s?

The 4002 was only made in natural and sunburst, not white, so I doubt that's what it is. I'd still guess a 4001.

All the factors point to a tuxedo/arctic white Ric 4001 from late 70's to early 80's. I still haven't gotten the pic from the guy, but I sent a pic of that kind of ric to my dad, see if it jogs his memory. the guy used the Ric when he was in a band with my dad, and that's how he remembers it. Hopefully my dad will know after I send that pic.

Isn't the 4000 a single bridge pup? If it's dual output, its 4000 series. If it's got two pups, that eliminates the 4000. The 4002 has a DI output, which probably would have been mentioned in the same breath as the dual output, so that prolly ain't it. If it's a 79, that means it's not a 4003.

I'll bet a hydrant wrench that it's a 4001.

EDIT: It actually could be a 4003, but that would be the first year it was made.

Yes, pretty much, a dual output Rickenbacker can be a 4001, a 4002 or a 4003 (not sure about 4005).

If it's a 79, it's not a 4003, so it's either a 4001 or a 4002.

Of these, 4001's are far more common.

my '67 4005 was mono (only had one output jack).
