Rickenbacker actually made a 5 string bass

It has been over 10 years since the ill fated 4004cii5 fiasco, and it has been since about 2001 when Rickenbacker stopped making the 4003s5 basses.

Well they did a one off ...

It's beautiful. That color scheme, surf with blackout, oh lord if only money were no object...

My Squier Jaguar bass is black with matching headstock and I've often thought of refinishing the body in surf green with black furniture much like that.

First time I ever played a Ric (was at local bass store where I bought my Alembic), I was SO taken with it! So I asked if they made them in 5 string and the shop owner said they did (and they were at the time) so I ordered one on the spot. But was just a tad late as soon my order was canceled and Ric gave up on figuring out how to build a 5 string. Probably just as well, too as those Ric 5ers had pickups that didn't properly cover 5 strings as I heard it. I've considered getting one of the Ric 5 conversions but the narrow spacing seems rather undesirable to me. If you are spending a ton of cash I think the bass should actually work as a bass and be near perfect. So I do keep hoping that one day Ric will get their act together and actually build a real 5 string Ric instead of some kluge.

I'll tell you the bass that REALLY set me off was the 6 string Rickenfaker that Bass Surgery or something like that built and someone posted to TB. I was SO ready to buy whatever the cost! And then I find out THEY went under awhile back! Obviously ERB Rics for me is simply not written.

Looks super cool, but the pickup positions seem a bit off. The neck pickup isn't at the 24th fret, and I suspect the bridge is pushed a little further back to compensate. Not a huge deal, as they're still pretty close, but would defeat the purpose for me.

The sloppy hand painting of the letters on the truss rod cover to match the bass and then leaving the made in usa lettering the original white, also note the chrome jackplate yet all the hardware is black. Rickenbacker knocked it out of the park with attention to detail as always lol. Someone will say I am being to critical, but I have to say do you see the $3700 opening bid?

As I said in another thread I bet it goes for over 5k

For the saddle piece? Yeah one looks black and one looks chrome for sure. If that stuff that can be seen in rather poor photos I cant imagine what it looks like in person.

How do you deal with the pups on your 4 2 5 conversions, custom 5 pole pups.?

Good to see they didn't try to use a 5 screw bridge on this one, no way that thin casting would hold without the two extra screws. Cool color, though personally id rather see it in chrome hardware, like a 50's car. Destined to be a collectors Case Queen, I suspect, and way too rich for most players blood. Its a hood ornament.
