Rickenbacker 'getting outed'

TB doesn't work very well for finding 'video of grumpy shagger that hates Ricks' lol :smug:

I just copied the URL:

"youtu.be/nQgAv2jcmcI"

then pasted "nQgAv2jcmcI" into the TB search & voila, heaps & heaps of posts with that video in them

the video is pretty darn funny

I think it just accentuates that the guy doesn't know how to maintain them, thus shuns them.

I still can't comprehend how people can ignore the shortcomings.

Yeah, it has had me butting heads with 4003 owners on here many times, even when I owned a 4004 (which solves all those shortcomings).

Some of his info is for the 4001 model only (they stopped making 4001 in the early 1980's). For instance, the frets are thicker and more robust on the 4003, so they won't get eaten away in record time anymore. Take his video rant to be largely about basses that have been improved a bit. I agree with him about the bridge for sure though

I happily enjoy the video every single time it's posted.

They look pretty cool, but I still can't comprehend how people can ignore the shortcomings.
I've been playing Rics since 1974. I had guitar techs that knew how to work on them on the very rare occasion they needed work. Frankly I didn't know there was a problem with them until I joined TB. Silly me, I just played the hell out of them all those years and didn't know it couldn't be done. I guess I'll have to stop playing my stock 1981 Rickenbacker since now I know it's not possible.

LOL, I've often seen thrown out here that searching Google for TB is better than using TB to search itself.

So I took the OP's search term, punched it into Goole, scroll past the Rick and Morty video and image matches and the first page hit, is this one...

Meanwhile, the same search term here on TB, empty page...

I'm sure there is a lesson in there somewhere, but @$^% it, I'm off to play bass.

Whenever I process other people’s opinions, I take into consideration whether the comments are either general or specific. For example:

General: “Rick’s suck!”
-This comment does absolutely nothing for me and should not be acknowledged.

Specific: “the fingerboard lacquer that was sprayed over the frets and bindings will lead to more complications during fret repairs.”
-This comment has value, as it discusses specific details worth considering.

I found that this video contains a significant amount of specific information that I can use to form my own opinions.
