just to add that i have seen The (Inaternational) Noise Conspiracy live yesterday. great rock'n roll show and increbible amount of piano like bass thunder provided by a wonderful jetglo rick with an old ampeg tube head and a 8x10 cab... wonderful!!!!

What do you guys think about the late 70's Ibanez Ric copies? There are 2 on eBay that look SWEET!!!! I have a 70's Ibanez Jazz bass, that IMHO, kills alot of Fender I've compared it to. (it has USA 75 RI p/u's in it)

Hey, how do you fingerstyle players fare on the Rickenbackers? I've seen the bridge pickup, and it seems to extend pretty far away from the strings. I rest my thumb on the edge of the pickup when I play (usually the J pickup in the bridge position), and that's where I like to play. Where do you fingerstyle players put your thumbs when you play?

i rest the thumb on the metallic part of the bridge pickup, obviously my rick is without the pickup cover...

I know once I get my ric I'm gonna have to alter the way I play a little. right now I play right over my neck pickup (on my dean). I keep my pickup pretty high so my fingers will bottom out on the pickup. helps me with speed, my fingers wont dig in.
with the ric though, its got those gigantic pole pieces sticking up, I'll have to learn not to dig in.

hey what is the model no. of the rickenbacker that cliff burton played???? because i was playing a used one (genuine original) today at my local music shop and it is perfect condition for $900 i think ill get it its amazing!!!!

Cliff played a 4001.
they just got a 1998 4003 maple glo at my local guitar shop, the guy wants $850. its got sweet low action.

I usually put my thumb either on the body where the pickguard meets up to it or on the 4th string. I usually play inbetween the pickups (if I remember how I play )

I stick my thumb right on top of the bridge pup, I don't have the cover on mine. When I play with a pick I rest my hand on the bridge and pick between the pup and the bridge. Narley tone!

I've got a 1979 4001F. It's the only Fretless Ric that I have ever come across. It's Dark Blue with a white pick guard. I have the cover on mine and I generally play with a pick so finger placement isn't an issue. I will sometimes play back at the bridge but mostly play with my hand resting on the p/u cover. It definitly has a unique sond to it, playing with a pick and flatwounds. When I first started playing about 15 years ago I was so heavily influenced by Chris Squire that I started playing with a pick and never looked back. It really pissed off one of my first bass teachers.

I'm going to add that .0047 cap to my bass. It's a 4003 with a toaster and a shoe... I think that Squire's 4001 had that capacitor, so... why don't try?

well, I've scraped the rick idea for awhile

been seeing all these chances (in the music we're doing) that a five string would be cool. and since my 5 needs some work and I don't really like it too much anyway, I'm having dave pushic build me a custom 5.

but, someday I will own a rick!

if you like rick so much, why not making your dp custom similar to a rick in the shape?

the reason I want a rick is for the sound, the shape and style look cool but, its not really why I want one. plus, I don't really want a "copy" or anything close, I like original designs.

i agree with you! i have a 4001 in mapleglo and i love it! mine was only and idea... and if you decide to order a dp custom please let him use his own design. i have seen a lot of guys who put money on a custom bass and design the bass without having ideas on how to make it. this causes really bad esthetic and ergonomy problems, and this is obviously not a dave's fault. he builds what you want. and if you want an ugly unbalanced instrument he will build it. you asked, he build. nothing against dpcustom or people who spent their money on ugly (for me) basses.
