when I do get a rick I'm gettin mapleglo with black trim (if they still offer it). the black trim is like a $90 option or something, but it will look sweet.

I have heard rumors of a new wide neck series of Rickenbackers in the works and that it will consist of 4, 5 and 6 string models.

Does anyone have any information about this?

For those of you who are unaware of this, RIC have now discontinued making their 4003/S5 and 4003/S8 string basses.
It is expected that John Hall will introduce a replacement 5 string bass on January 17th at the NAMM show. The new bass will be of new design and not incorporate any of the neck dimensions that were using in the 4003 series.
RIC's special colour for 2001 "Desert Gold" has also been discontinued. The new special colour for 2002 will also be introduced at the NAMM show.
Please click on the link below to see what RIC showed at the recent Toyko Music Fair guitar show. Baby Blue was the colour that was introduced for the Japanese market. Word has it that Baby Blue will NOT be available for North American orders.
We will just have to wait a week and a half to find out for sure

i played a Rickenbacker 4003 at GC a while ago and DAMN...i fell in love. Those basses sound sooooooo, SO sweet. I can now see what the hooplah is all about. I know where MY moneys going now....

My 1st bass, way back in '77 was the worst Sears Silvertone ever made. The best probably didn't sound better. But I digress. My second bass was a '77 4001 jetglo. Saved all $450 at $2.50/hr working in a bakery after school. To say it was my most prized possession would be an understatement. Several years later, some bastard stole every penny I had right before the holidays. So the Ric, my Bassman 50 amp, and Sunn 215 cab all had to go.

To this day I regret having to sell the Ric. But alas, 20+ years later, Santa brought me a bright shiny 4003 in jetglo and put it under my tree. What an absolutely beautiful instrument. I can say with total certainty that Rickenbacker continues to maintain the highest quality standard. I hope to get many more years of musical pleasure from this beauty.

You think that's bad? Some ****er stole my '72 fireglo 4001 (with some nice mods done to it) from the seat next to me on the train (was listening to music and had my eyes closed - took my hands off it for about a minute).

If i ever find out who it was - i WILL kill him.

I never had a bass stolen but one gig I brought my rig (PV MK6 and 2 4 10 cabs) out to the truck went back in for maybe three minuets and got my bass and gigbag and came out my whole rig was gone.
Taught me a valuable lesson!
