I like the pics you post of your conversions Ric5. I don't play 5'ers, but they look very well done. I wouldn't worry about what others say. Also, there is a cult of EBMM followers that behave just like the Rick purists. I just don't understand it either. It's your instrument. Do what you want to it.

I just want to say, I'm as big a Rickenbacker fan as there ever was, but I'm also a huge Ric5 fan. I have had my share of haters, and I must say, they have brought me a lot of good fortune.

I've been gassing for a Rickenbacker here, and got exactly the opposite impression about Rickenbacker players. Some say that a Rick have to be modified or it can't be played at all. I am supposed to at least take the bridge mic cover of, and change the bridge before even testing the instrument properly.

In the decade that I've been following various bass forums, I've seen your name come up a lot. Some like what you do, some don't. You seem to be involved in some level of drama any time you post your work.

That said, the only thing that surprises me is that it continues to bother you. Just let it go, and do what you're gonna do. Some will like it....some won't.

@Ric5 : Don't let it take you down; I don't own one of your 5-string Rics, but am impressed by your craftmanship.
As for mods in general; IMHO, modding a bass to suit one's needs is totally up to the one who owns the bass.
That in mind, I'd just ignore anyone telling what one should do or not with his bass - be it a Fender, Yamaha, Ric, ...

Or in simpler words: Nobody tells a man how to mod his bass - same for women, of course

If I build a Rick copy and post it here I will get a lot of hatred directed my way, and I get that hate just for modifying Rickenbackers. But If I build a copy of a jazz bass and put in active electronics then everybody will praise my workmanship.

Its easy, stop searching for validation in the TB forums. Its you're Rick, do whatever you want to it. Like if I owned a Rickenbacker, it wouldn't stay stock for very long, and furthermore I wouldn't care what anyone had to say about.

You're never gonna please everyone...haters gonna hate. Just do whats right for you. If that means throwing EMG pickups, de-fretting, and refinishing a Rick to Seafood green, go for it

The M8e is a rickenbacker SE amp, circa 1958, originally sold with a Hawaiian lap guitar. Yes, I did replace the 12ax7 tube, it darkened the sound. And no I can't play my bass through it.
