Rics: Jetglo v Mapleglo !

Mapleglo but I have to say the piece of wood on my 4003 was horrible!!! Absolutely unacceptable for a 1600.00 bass ( got mine new in 2008). The piece of wood looked like it came from my firewood pile with dark spots and streaks. It should be a clear piece of maple for the price!

I'm truly shocked that this happened!

Seriously...I'm sorry to hear about that. It's always a pain to buy a new bass and be let down.

My first Ric was a Fireglow 4001 that I bought in high school and (stupidly) refinished to Mapleglo thinking it would look cool like McCartney's. It had a great looking Fireglo too. Anyway in 2008 I bought a Jetglo 4003, always wanted one and the black finish is beautiful. If I ever buy another Ric it will probably be a Fireglow but only if I find the right one.

I love black tuxedo look! Nothing's more stylish than stark black and white.

Question: Why is it called "Jet Glo"? No other company uses that term for what this is...

i think because it's 'jet' black.

i like mapleglo, jetglo and fireglo. i have no preference at all. i currently have a jetglo 4003 and a fireglo V63, but all of my previous ric 4001's were mapleglo.

here's my current two:

The term 'Glo' is apparently short for 'gloss' finish. I guess it sounded better that way when they thought it up.
That's the only way I can keep straight which was AutumnGlo and which was Walnut.
AutumnGlo should be a gloss finish, while Walnut was a satin.

Anyway, I prefer JetGlo to MapleGlo personally. Unpainted or untinted wood finishes look great in person, but very blah to me on stage.

That said, I think the MG looks better with the tort 'guard.
