Double Bass Rig for NS EUB?

i would suggest changeing those strings...the stock ns strings are
a bad joke :scowl:
i have tried alot of amps and cabs with my nscr5m, and have had great results with an
aguilar gs112 cab, no matter which amp i use. i'm not sure which amp to go with yet, but since i don't use eq on the amp if at all possible, the simpler the better.
i will be getting another gs112 for sure. they handle the b string great.
one thing of note, there is always a decent p.a. with good subs for shows, so i don't have to worry about losing any subharmonic content
at loud performances.
cheers

I hated the stock strings too. However, if you like the stock strings, I've got the set that came off my EU5 for sale on TB.

My string choice is Corelli 370M. Relatively low tension, but a nice clear, pianolike tone in the low registers.

NS Uprights kill amps! I love them for it though. The only amp ive played so far that hasn't turned to goo and distortion while running my CR5 through it is my Ashdown. I've got an ABM300 head running through an ABM 2x10+1x15 cab and it sounds pretty good, I had better overall response from an ampeg 8x10 cab though and I've already gone through one 15" speaker on the ashdown which was disappointing. Still it was a second hand cab.

I'll be changing my standard strings to Hybrid Mediums or Thomastiks asap. Stock strings are flabby and theres no way a bow will stick to the Low-b. I have to make sure the blend is on full-arco and the bass is on full and the treble on 0 to make sure that you can hear the B.

I started this post many months ago and I am grateful for all your info!

Through more gigs I am finding that smaller speakers are better, my Bag End 18 and/ or 15 gives a really woofy sound. I have borrowed both a 2x12 and 2x10 cabs from various sources and found the 2x10 to really give the nicest sound. I think it has a lot to do with a combination of the really hot preamp gain and immense sustain.

The amp doesn't seem to have much of an effect, I have an Epifani and IAMP, both do great jobs recreating what comes through the instrument.

While it seems that the concensus is a great set of strings, out of my own cheapness I haven't taken anyones suggestion yet, but I will soon.

I redid the demo for my band this weekend and used the NS on two tunes. Route 66 and The Way You Look tonight. Here were my settings.

NS flat with the 2nd knob set to the piz setting(I can never remember what you call that magic button). I used channel 2 on my Epifani totally flat with the gain at about 10 o'clock. We used the preamp out to a countryman DI into the board. At mix down we brought the mid low frequency selector down to about 220 kz and boosted it to about 2 o'clock.

It was a really authentic upright sound that I couldn't be happier with. Even used the bow on the last 4 bars of The Way You Look tonight.

I still haven't figured out exactly what speakers are best live but I am considering trying the Phil Jones briefcase, I have read a number of good things about it. unfortunately I haven't found a place to try one out even being 40 miles from NYC?

I am starting to figure that it is cheaper and I will have a better final result with a combo then trying to match a cabinet to one of my heads. Like I said the Phil Jones or maybe even a GK 150MB, I used to have one of these years ago that I used with my acoustic and electic. It worked well, we'll see, again I haven't found one locally to try.
