I use Rig A for 99% of my gigs. I take Rig B when I'm feeling lazy, it's raining, or a full stack is just WAYYY overkill...and it rarely is!

Difficult to answer.

I do around 80 gigs per year. Of those:

1) 50 are small - weight 45 or 95 lbs. (112 plus head)
2) 25 are med. - weight 68 or 117 lbs. (212 plus head)
3) 5 are large - weight 104 or 154 lbs. (212/112 plus head)

The difference in weight is due to the head I take. Most often it's a Neo-pak at 8lbs. But I occasionally take the GBE 1200 in a 3 space rack just for fun and extra headroom. It weighs about 50 lbs more than the Neo-pak.

If I could have only one rig to handle everything, it would be the 212/Neo-pak, so for the purpose of this thread, the answer is 66 lbs.

I end up doing around 100 gigs per year.
Most of these gigs are small/medium size rooms, with the exception of 24 of them being church gigs, which are LARGE rooms by any measure.

My rig has to fall into the light category as well as portable as my car (not of choice because it was free) is a 2dr Cavalier. I have used the following within the last year:

Ampeg SVT-3 Pro
Epifani NYC-212

125 lbs w/ rack. this one had to go, it barely fit in the car, was heavy to load out at the end of long gig, but sounded GREAT!

75 Lbs total. Rack seemed heavier than the cabinet. barely loud enough, load out was equally as hard as the rig it replaced.

Nothing but good things to say. 57lbs for a 4x10, loud enough for anything I will do in the next 2 years. Sounds unbelievably good for what it cost. Load out requires 2 trips, but could be one if I had a gig bag for the bass. Fits in the car better than the NYC-212.

If I end up doing more gigs this year and working my way up the gig-food-chain, I still wont need another rig.

bass is maybe 15 with the gig bag+cables+spare stings, cables, crap.

about 70 gigs per annum

As a sound company:

anywhere from a few hundred pounds to over 10,000 (we have staging!)
fewer gigs than I'd like, but still around 30

Usual (maybe 75 to 80% of the time) rig is a Thunderfunk 550 (A) into an EA nl-210. Maybe 55 or so lbs total. Many times I just use a SABDDI and run through the wedges. About one out of four gigs is an ampless one for me. Every great once in a while I use a cxl-112 and a nl-210 together, but that is very rare. Just medium large shows with minimal PA support and outside gigs where I am handling FOH. I just bought a SWR Basic Black combo for road gigs so my nicer stuff isn't being banged up in the trailer. That weighs maybe 45 or so lbs. Only time that gets used is for tour situations.

To sum up 55 lbs for average gig, 45 lbs for road shows, and maybe 1 lb for the SABDDI when I can get away with no rig.

I gig between 2 to 4 times a week on average. Somewhere around 150 to 175 gigs a year would be my estimate. I have a couple acts (actually three at the moment) of which I am considered a regular member. About a third of my gigs are freelance stuff.

Small rig (duo work): Ibanez amp, 35 pounds, mic stand bag & bass about 25. I had a good year, so about 80 gigs. Large: 4x10 SWR 89 lbs., 1x15 SWR 60 lbs., iAMP 800, racked, about 30 lbs., 35 gigs.

I'm interested in whether there's any correlation at all between these two variables, even a weak one, across different styles and working arrangements.

Music style would be relevant. I know some 80's rock bands who carry big backline even though their stage volume is low... the PA does the work.

On that note: whether or not bass gets PA assist is another factor (I rarely go through the PA).

To answer the question directly:

My 4 space rack head is 40 pounds, and my cabs, whether one NV610 or two HS210, weigh around 100 pounds. Total is 140#.

50 gigs per year... right about where I want to be!


P.S. I'd love to carry a smaller rig, but I rarely get PA support.

As the title suggests, I'm interested in finding out whether there's any correlation over the sample of players here between these two variables, just out of personal curiosity. If I get enough responses, I'll run 'em through Excel and see what we see.

So, could you please post
A) Rig weight
B) Gigs per year

For the weight, just post that of your most typical setup. Head (or rack) + cab(s), or combo if that's what you use. If you regularly gig with very different setups, then post them and say how much use each one gets - I'll take a weighted average.

For the gig freqency, how many gigs a year would be typical for you? I've asked for the yearly figure to iron out seasonal fluctuations.

Neither has to be spot on, just a rough guide. I'll go first:

A) 44lb (my Markbass combo - I rarely use anything else nowadays)
B) Maybe 35 gigs in a reasonable year (yeah, I know - not enough )

Number of gigs per year: 20

20 is plenty of gigs per year for me, that keeps it fun for now. I'll gig more when I retire from my day job in a few years.
