Although I never met him physically, we talked on the phone a few times. We were introduced by the pianist Burt Eckoff, when Burt and I were in Dakota Staton's band. But even earlier than that, a fusion group I was a part of in the 70's played at the Night Flight Cafe in Savannah and, since Ben owned a local jazz radio station, got interviewed and remote broadcasted at his behest.
Although a lot of it never got recorded, Ben played with a wide range of musicians in NYC, from Dixieland/trad through some Tristano circle avant bop. And was still going strong, playing in Savannah, Hilton Head etc....
