RIP Chris Cornell - Soundgarden/Audioslave

I learned this morning, it's a bummer. Soundgarden was, is, and will remain one of my favorite bands, and Cornell was one of the greatest rock singers of all time. I just saw them for the first time a couple weeks ago, I'm at least grateful that I had a chance to do so before it became impossible. Sad day. I guess I better go get some liquor so I can pour some out.
I've been listening to Soundgarden non-stop since I heard the news. This is one of my favorite songs by them being played at what I think is their peak.
His voice has been blown (clarifying, he could certainly still sing but had no power or duration) since pre Audioslave. He seemed to have short resurgences where he could bring some power but mostly sang with a VERY hot mic to give the 'appearance' of power. There are some stark examples on YouTube, from various live performances. IMO and no disrespect intended. He sounded awful, behind the band as I had heard in one radio report earlier, in that vid.
He was a very important artist to me personally, and I have always thought and said he's the best ever rock singer, up to the first SG breakup. My wife told me when I woke up this morning, and I am still trying to process the thought of his death and very much the suicide part these many hours later.
It shocked me when I found out about it this morning on a friend's fb feed. I been rocking out to Chris Cornell for 20+ yrs. Loved Soundgarden and Temple of the dog back in the day and Audioslave was excellent. Just about all the big players from the 90s grunge Era are gone now.
Perhaps he had bullet holes in his mirrors. He tried to do his best, but he could not. RIP, Chris.........
Life-long struggle with depression. It's not about something being "bad for him,". It's about a chemical imbalance in the brain. A heavy loss to the music scene, he still had stories to tell.

Back in 2004 or so Chris Cornell came over to the table that our crummy little law firm band was occupying at the Brooklyn in Seattle to greet our guitarist, who was a legal messenger at the crummy little law firm. Our guitarist had hired Chris to do backing vocals for a presumably never to be heard project many years earlier but Chris was gracious, quiet and focused and insisted on being introduced to everyone at the table.
I had been discussing my deep yearning to play Moog bass pedals at our crummy little law firm's Christmas party which was going to be held in the Benaroya symphony concert hall when Chris approached the table so I'm sure he found me fascinating
. His eyes burned deeply into my brain when we were introduced.
His voice transcended any musical style. Can you imagine him singing Frame By Frame by King Crimson? Or Everybody's Got Something To Hide, 'Cept for Me And My Monkey? Or a million other possible songs? I'd love to hear his version of Big Bottom.

I was surprised too, but depression doesn't always Act Out for attention, but rather one wants to hide this weakness, and wouldn't lose face by admitting he a successful man-- still found life meaningless. There are people choosing death over life that aren't famous all the time; make eye contact, hold a door open, share a smile.

RIP, Chris. You were an excellent singer. Superunknown, Badmotorfinger, and Louder Than Love were huge inspirations to me as a kid.
Remember when they finally broke it big. Always preferred SG from the other Seattle groups
I struggled with some dark things about the period of time BMF was released. His suicide stirred up a lot of those buried feelings from that time. A lot of their stuff was dark, and I believe reflected his battle. I hope he escaped the demon that haunted him
