RIP Chris Cornell - Soundgarden/Audioslave

Thinking back to that time, this was such a disruptive (in a very, very good way) event in the music industry. I grew up liking punk, and before that whatever the heaviest thing was I could hear on the radio- some metal, Zeppelin, etc. But you couldn't hear much of that on the radio in Florida at the time, and no internet then.

So I heard Jesus Christ Pose for the first time on MTV, when I used to stay up late to watch both 'Headbanger's Ball' (the heavy metal show) and '120 Minutes' (MTV's only alternative/indie music show at the time) and heard JCP on BOTH. What the heck was this band called 'Soundgarden'?!

Like MTV, I was confused about what their sound was in terms of rock genre, but I knew I liked it. A lot.

Too early to lose Chris Cornell- tremendous talent and a bright guy.

Last night i saw one of the best concerts i've ever seen. Was 3rd row behind the pit (right in front of Ben) and the band was ON! Chris sounded amazing and was a badass setlist and incredible performance.
Then i wake up at 7 with around 50 texts and 30 FB notifications about the news of his death. In shock, don't know what to say or think or anything. Been a huge Soundgarden fan most of my life, since Badmotorfinger.

Sucks.

I always compared his voice to a Porsche engine - it sounded fairly normal at low RPMs but when Chris put his foot down he made an unearthly sound.

I thought he had escaped the demons of his youth and had 20 years of career left in him. He seemed to be very grounded when he spoke. I am sad for the music we will never get to hear.

Nick Menza died from a heart attack at the age of 51.
Peter Steele died from an aortic aneurysm at the age of 48.

The point is that there are other causes of death than drug and alcohol abuse for rock stars.

Very true, and I sincerely hope something like that is found to be the cause of Cornell's death. It's unlikely but I would be happy to be wrong in this case.

The day that my dad passed away (5/2/95) the song that was playing on the radio when I got into my car was Say Hello 2 Heaven. I cried then, and I cried today. Prayers and hopeful thoughts for his family.

I feel blessed to have seen them six times between July 2011 - July 2014 (Toronto, Belgium, England, Philadelphia, Ottawa, Montreal). I missed out on tickets around 2015 for the King Animal tour, sold out two nights in Toronto I would have made the trip to see, so sadly I never saw any King Animal tunes live. Regardless, I "knew" I'd be seeing them again soon. So crushed. I wonder what will happen with the material they'd been working on for the upcoming album. I kinda hope the "Temple of the Dog" it and get some guests like Vedder to fill in so it can be released as a tribute or something.

I had tickets to the King Animal tour. The venue was on the complete other side of the Denver metro area from where we live, and it was snowing awfully on the night of the show. I bagged it, and now I wish I'd gone.
