RIP Jim Marshall

I vividly remember seeing Jimi Hendrix and Cream. Marshall Mania!!
I always heard that Jim Marshall was a wonderful man and as a businessman, listened to his customers and gave them what they wanted. The best companies always do.
By the way, concerning the bass amps. Jack Bruce gets one of the great "punchy" ( I swore I'd never use that term on this Forum) distorted sound on the live side of Wheels of Fire". Granted he had that EB3 but can you imagine Crossroads or Spoonful with any other tone? It wouldn't be Jack.

I still think fondly about my 84 lbs. 200 watt 1969 Marshall Major amplifier head. Wish I still had it. May Jim Marshall rest in peace.
Before I even got into non hip hop / rap music, I knew of Marshall Amps. In fact, until I was about 16, I thought Marshall Stacks were the ONLY guitar amp. I couldnt imagine a world without them. They will forever be my go to amp for guitarists i play with. Thank you Jim for your eternal contribution to arts, technology, and to mankind
Such sad news, the greatest mind in amplification, changed the sound of music. Passed away at the age of 88. Rest in peace Mr. Marshall...

Though not commonly spoke of 'round these parts...one of the great innovators and contributors to Rock music has called it a day. His early amplification products can only be regarded as ground breaking - even *I* played a Marshall back in the 70's. He WILL be missed

I heard a bout this a little while ago. It is a shame.
As for the "Marshall did nothing for bass amps" guys, aside from Lemmy there are many things he put out that are incredible amps. The DBS series alone deserves some attention. 4000 watts out of a rack mount, tube pre amp? The VBA 400 is an amazing amp, and there were many versions of all tube amps that made history every weekend in garages and small clubs across the world.

I am lucky to have had the honour of meeting Jim a number of times over the years. In my 26+ years of playing guitar and bass, Marshall amps have been the only brand I've owned. From my first 30W ss combo amp, through Super Bass topped stacks, to my current VBA400 topped stacks, no other amps have ever come close to giving me the sound in my head. Marshalls do!

I just found the article on Yahoo about him.
I wondered if anyone had posted about it yet? I know he wasn't a major force in the bass amp world but still a big loss for the rock music world in general. RIP Jim.
