I'm surprised that it has been mentioned here yet - I did a search and didn't find anything:

John Amos, ‘Good Times’ Dad and ‘Roots’ Actor, Dies at 84

He died in August, but it wasn't announced until earlier this month. As James Evans Sr. on "Good Times," John Amos is still my all-time favorite TV dad. My favorite movie role of his is big, bad gangster Kansas City Mack in the Sidney Poitier/Bill Cosby movie "Let's Do It Again."

Oh, I totally missed the announcement. That's sad news.

Not sure I ever saw him as a TV dad, but he was very memorable as the dad in "Coming To America", grappling with how best to settle on the right dynamic with his opposite number - James Earl Jones (the both seem to have gone in quick succession).

I haven't seen the recent sequel "Coming 2 America" yet, but if he reprises his role in that, I'll check it out, in tribute.

I always liked him on everything he portrayed. He had a great voice the few times I heard him doing narrations. This role in The Beastmaster, did crack me up initially, but he pulled it off rather well. RIP John.

I always loved that movie (1982 was an incredible year for Sci-Fi, Horror, and Fantasy movies), but was torn between discomfort, and laughter at the amount of buttock on display from Amos, and his child sidekick (Tanya Roberts, on the other hand, I was very comfortable with. Sadly she died during the pandemic).

He was super cool in Die Hard 2.

R.I.P.

Remembered him in Roots and Good Times, curious why he is mentioned in a Bass Forum unless he played some Bass.

Anyway I believe the Bass Player for the Good Times theme song was Chuck Rainey.

He's getting really old, I wonder how he's doing?

Chuck is still giving interviews at age 84.
I saw the Rick Beato one almost a year ago.

Chuck really seemed sharp and on top of things!
:)
