My new year's resolution will be to stop surfing the web for photos and tributes to Lemmy.
I knew the people of Earth would mourn, but the outpouring of great stories from fans & fellow musicians is really a testament to how great the guy was.

Our biggest yellow press paper is the "Bild". "Frankfurter Allgemeine", "Süddeutsche" and "Welt" are the opposite of yellow press - and the most important "respectable" German papers.
By the way; "Frankfurter Allgemeine says: "The iron fist plunks the card ..." (Die eiserne Faust haut die Karte hin - The Ace of Spades)

Lemmy has been BIG in Germany for Decades. He had always been one of the Headliners on "Wacken Festival" (biggest and most important Metal festival with 100,000 visitors).His popularuity might be comparable to Rammstein - only that Motörhead has been an icon since the 1980s.
I think I already mentioned that Lemmy's death was reported on all "ARD" and "ZDF" TV news (comprable to BBC). The last musician reported about was B.B. King?

Heard the news the other day and whilst i was saddened by the news it occurred to me that I hadn't really listened to that much of Lemmy's playing or Motorhead.
Listened to some Motorhead and was struck by how surprisingly inventive some of his parts are are and how much harder they are to play than I would have thought, listening to the track The Ace of Spades in particular there are alot of bass chords played as well as the awesome signature bass riff.
I have to say now that Lemmy is very underrated as a bass player, definately.

Actually those three are easily the most reputable newspapers in german speaking countries as a whole. I bought a FAZ yesterday.
Been on austrian news, too, and yeah B.B. was the last musician to be mentioned.
Next week I'll have to return my tickets. Last year I had to chance to either see Motörhead or the Stones and I decided on the stones as I haven't seen them yet and thought, that Lemmy will go on touring anyway, but the Stones might never give another concert. I hate festivals anyway. The year before Lemmy got sick and the concert was cancelled. But as he said. No remorse, you cannot change the past and so it's up to us to keep the flame alive(I even wrote as song about that, which I stupidly handed to my ex-BL).

I was born in the early 60s in Western Germany and know, that his music was a no-go for old and young Nazis until the end of the 1980s.
The music of young Nazis changed (as far as I know). Their music came closer to his "hard way of Rock'n'Roll". But his fans in Germany are "normal middle class" people from 15 to 65. A rassitic band would NEVER be allowed to play in "Wacken" (biggest and best known Metal festival in Germany).
About Lemmy's love to German WWII military: Yes! But he was simply "typically British". As some British say: "The Germans had the best equipment and the best looking uniforns ..." (Which isn't true. The strongest yes, but surley not the best reliable or easiest/quickest to service!)
Off Topic ... RAMMSTEIN (as there are many fans in the US too) ...
Ramstein is not only the name of an important US Air Base in Germany. If someone says Ramstein, all people 40+ remember the horrific accident during a military show (70 people died when two Italian planes hit eachother - many were burnt). The musicians added a second "m" - which sounds the same. Yes; Rammstein is a "ram stone".
I remember when I first heard Rammstein in the 1990s. Their singing sounded like "Nazi singing" and the name of the band was a no-go to me. It took me years to understand that they are NOT right winged ...

First time I ever heard of motorhead I was in the 7th grade and I watch a show on vh1 called hard rock videos and the video for ace of spades was played on that show. it sounded totally awesome. and since then I've been a fan. the first motorhead cd I owned when I was young was ace of spades. it was a totally awesome album. rip lemmy.
