heard about this on vacation, so I am late to the thread, but what a great loss to the bass world, as well as the punk world! One of the founding fathers of the true punk attitude! Personally, one of my "Big 5" foundation influences. Losing him and Chris Squire leaves my bass world pretty shaky. While I would have never made the choices about substance usage as Lemmy, I did use his influence in many other aspects of my life and playing.

I wear a Motorhead t-shirt everywhere now, and I'm actually surprised sometimes by the people who mention Lemmy's passing.
Even the guy at FedEx said something today.
I expected it from the guys at the Fender dealer, but also the guy from the pawn shop. I think his main reason there is to appraise instruments though, and maybe do setups.
I'm sad that the old guy is gone, but it's encouraging how so many people at least know about Motorhead. It's kind of like what Lemmy wrote in his book, that he'd be larger than life after he's gone.
The only guy that seemed oblivious was the guy at the liquor store quizzically stating that the Jack Daniels was flying off the shelves.

One of my professors at the college could never remember my name, but he remembered my Motorhead t-shirt, and would just call me Lemmy. I thought it was hilarious!

when I did drum corps, my nickname was "Rush" b/c all of my shirts were Rush shirts;
Actually being known was never a problem for Lemmy and Motörhead. What kept him from living in a villa next to Jack Nicholson - aside from being modest - was that his records didn't sell equally to Motörhead's name recognition. Long before he died you could see rocker chicks sporting their shirts, but how many would have even one album at home?
Motörhead was, is and now even more so will become a brand for (supposed) outsider rockers.
btw I wear my only shirt anytime I clean it. My M65 has a badge on the breast pocket, but nobody mentioned anything so far. Not even at the guitar store.
Am removed from the "real" local rockscene for quite some time now, though.

MH were always a strong underdog. Some of Lemmy's personal heroes are guys who were great but never "made it".

Well let's not.go there... Those poor ragamuffins are doing the best they can I guess, but it's another universe. Not parallal to mine though. No relation to the rock n roll I remember. Which is a shame... Or a good thing. I can't decide! Lol.
Nice to see how much influence Motorhead and Lemmy have had though, especially since popular music has slid so far down into the sonic equivalent of Cheese-Whiz. Or Skittles.
Pop Punk is the probably the worst oxymoron I've ever heard.
Pop and Punk are on the opposite ends of the spectrum from one another.
