RIP Mick Karn :(

Wow, I can't believe I missed this stuff! I guess you can't listen to EVERYTHING...

I can see where bands like Kajagoogoo and Duran Duran got their inspiration, vocalist sounds a bit like Danny Elfman, or should I say the other way around.

Is there solo Mick Karn or later work?

Tin Drum totally sounds like Oingo Boingo

Wow sad news. When I read his cover story in bass player magazine in the late nineties I went out and got his solo album righ away, the number of times I hear that slbum being played in stadiums before bands go on is amazing, (tool is the one I remember most) he is a true musician's musician and although he was always self concious about his limitedknowlege of traditional theory, his creativity was pure genius and an inspiration to many. Rip Mick karn

Mick karn is s true bass hero and a great artist by any measure. He will be missed.

Sad news!
His work with Dali's Car was by far my favorite, truly a unique player, easily recognizable tone and phrasing.
Too bad he never really got the recognition he deserves, maybe because his style is so hard to emulate.

He certainly made his mark in the world, at least for anyone who goes looking for it.
Rest in Peace.

Very, very sad news that everyone's been dreading for some time. Loved his work in Japan, Dali's Car, studio work with Kate Bush and David Torn. I ran into him at The Bass Centre in London several years back and was struck by what a nice person he was. A tragedy!:(

IIRC, there's a story where Karn was in a session with Bill Bruford...and he was driving Bruford crazy 'cause he was not putting his notes in the 'usual places'. ;)

Yeah, that was during the sessions for David Torn's Door X album. Mick was a beautiful autodidact, and the fact that he didn't even know the names of notes was baffling to Broof, the consumate professional. Didn't stop them from making gorgeous music together though. Really wished I'd seen them when they toured in support of Torn's Cloud About Mercury album, that was supoosedly the shiznit.

I believe he did some interesting work with Robert Fripp as well...

Uh... really?
